Drilling Pocket Holes for Face Frames

Drilling pocket holes, angled holes, can be accomplished with or without a jig. When beginning to drill a hole at an angle without a jig, there is always the problem of the drill bit to slip/walk from the center of your desired hole location.

Without a jig, drill straight down into the wood. After the drill bit breaks the surface, change the angle of the drilling to the desired angle and complete the drilling of the hole.

The most efficient way to drill a pocket hole is to use a simple metal jig; they are available from Rockler for about $15; simply clamp the jig in place and drill your angled hole.
